Employment Opportunity: Program Officer

Program Officer for The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (NY, NY). Serve as a lead organizer for mentorship and grants program targeting PhD-level scholars working on issues of violence and conflict in Africa. Evaluate grant and fellowship research applications dealing with international problems of violence, aggression, and dominance. Present the annual research grants and dissertation fellowship competitions. Lead the Young African Scholars Program, review and revise participants’ papers to be presented at international academic association meetings. Oversee the foundation’s grant management website: update the system, create and implement the various grant processes and liaise with the grant management support staff as necessary. Requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Political Science, International affairs, or a related field, plus one year of experience in the offered role, or as a researcher, writer, editor, or related role. Must have experience: writing on issues of conflict, politics and youth in international politics; conducting primary research and writing reports; proofreading and editing the work of others; writing about international politics, with particular focus on Africa’s politics and the African diaspora; and investigating youth involvement in riots and political rap.
